HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY! Spring is here, isn't it? CRTs are coming up in April. May I suggest English Interactives (fun learning games) or CRT practice on evenings when there doesn't seem to be homework. Find the links under my Bookmarks Manager "Top Folder" file. You can take lots of different practice tests in math, science, and language arts. The English interactives are quite fun! In fact, "Free Rice" is a website that can be quite addictive for budding wordsmiths.
As an English teacher at Valley, my main job is to help my students understand more about English. While doing so, I hope to teach my students how to be confident communicators, good citizens, and complex problem-solvers. I'm also here to teach my students how to make wise choices about academics and behavior. Feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone if you have concerns. Thank you for trusting me with your beautiful sons and daughters.

7th GRADE STUDENTS--Your 3-ring binder/portfolio is brought to class every period. This is how we will organize/record/track your individual progress. Don't forget your AR reading logs (30-minutes minimum x 5 times weekly at home) and learning logs/class notes (3 pages a week in class/at home). These are due every two weeks. PARENT SIGNATURES ARE MANDATORY!!!! AR reading logs and learning logs/class notes will become part of your portfolio, so be impeccably honest. One creative book review is due each quarter. Effort equals achievement. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll see remarkable results with consistent effort on your part.
WRITING LAB STUDENTS--Your 3-ring binder/portfolio is brought to class every period. We will be adding things every class period as a way of organizing/recording/tracking your learning. This is a great way of keeping your work organized, reflecting on your progress, and working toward your portfolio goals.
BEGINNING ORAL ESL STUDENTS--Your 3-ring binders/portfolios are kept in class for the entire year.

Ciao Ragazzi!
Well, we've made it through half a year together! Yea! Some of you have really done a terrific job of organizing, planning ahead, keeping track of assignments, and managing your time. Great job! Others have done great with reading logs and learning logs/class notes and taking AR tests. Congratulations! If you didn't do so great, make sure you take your student-led conference with your parents VERY SERIOUSLY. We all have to work together and communicate (students, parents, counselors, teachers, and administrators) to be successful.
