ABOUT ALEKS:

Students should aim to spend an average of 3 hours per week learning on the ALEKS web-based program (www.aleks.com).  They will get about half of this time in class, where I can assist them as needed.  Each student has a login name and a password for their individual account.  I have a record of these should a student forget theirs. Computers at InTech are available before and after school with ALEKS installed for students to use outside of class.

To install ALEKS on a home computer, a browser plug-in will be downloaded the first time you log-on.  If an error occurs, it will probably be one of two issues.  First, it may be password security on the computer.  It's best to install ALEKS the first time from within the Administrator or Parent main account.  Second, Java VM (Java Virtual Machine) may not be installed or activated on the computer.  Java VM is necessary for the ALEKS plug-in to work.  If you don't have it on the machine, Google "Java VM" and download-and-install a free copy (again in the adminstrator area, if necessary).  After Java VM is installed, restart the browser and log on to ALEKS.  This time the plug-in should download correctly and all will work correctly.

Note: If ALEKS hangs or crashes, simply restart the browser and log on again.  ALEKS will start right at the point that the problem occurred; you will usually not lose much work at all.
