About Mr. Mac
After high school I did cement work with my dad and two brothers for about ten years. While doing the cement business I learned how to work hard and started taking college night classes. I graduated from the University of Utah in 2002 with a teaching degree in Mathematics and Political Science. I taught at Oly jr. for six years and loved almost every second of it. This is my first year at Valley Jr. I am loving it so far. The kids have been great, I am enjoying teaching here at Valley. I have enjoyed coaching girls and boys basketball. I have also enjoyed coaching chess. I recently finished a master's degree in curriculum and instruction at the University of Phoenix. I am married to my wonderful wife Chris McIntyre (she is amazing) and we have a baby boy (Ian Robert), we are truly enjoying every second with him.
Hobbies/Interests
I love to fish. I love wood working. I am getting better at building concrete countertops and concrete coffee tables. I like going to the gym, and I love going with my wife. I love spending time with our new baby boy Ian. I also look forward to lots of camping trips with my wife and Ian. I also like watching Ian play for hours on end.
Education Beliefs
I believe that every student can learn math. I love teaching math a variety of ways and look forward to challenging kids with interesting math problems and situations. I will do whatever it takes to help your child learn math. I believe that every student can be successful in my math class if they will only try. The more effort they put into the class the more knowledge they will walk away with. I want all my students to learn from this class that effort and hard work will help them succeed in life. I want my students to learn how to work with others to solve problems. The world we live in today requires that our young people work with each other to find solutions to some very tough real life situations. I believe in using as much technology as possible to teach math. I do not claim to be an expert in technology. I welcome ideas and help from both young and old, to help me teach using technology in the classroom.
Parents and Students
Please be ready and willing to work together on some math problems. There will be times when your kids are asked to teach you some mathematics. There will be other times when you will be asked to learn the math together using a webquest. Please come ready to learn and enjoy all that mathematics has to offer.
