By the end of first quarter, students should be able to key 35 wpm with 8 or fewer errors.

Technique is worth 20% of your final grade.  You should:

  • sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor
  • keep your eyes on the copy
  • keep your arms at your sides with your wrists up as much as possible
  • use the correct fingering
  • keep your fingers curved

All makeup work is due by 2:45 Tuesday, December 22!!!  The term ends the week after Christmas Break!

November 24 and 30

  1. Log in.
  2. Type Drill #12.  Save and close.
  3. Keyboard board D
  4. Make up any missing work.
  5. If you are all caught up, you may have a free day.

November 20 and 23

  1. Log in.
  2. Type Drill #11.
  3. Skillbuilding K and L. (A day will need to print next week.)
  4. Work on Thanksgiving Packet.  Do not print.

November 18 and 19

  1. Log in.
  2. Type Drill #10.
  3. Log into Microtype and pull out pink card.  Play Internet games while you wait for others to finish up.
  4. Keyboard Board C
  5. Go through all the drills up to this point and make sure you have all of them done and on the correct page.  Save and close.
  6. Thanksgiving packet.

November 16 and 17

  1. Log in.
  2. Drill #9.
  3. Log into Microtype and pull out your pink card.  Play Internet games while you are waiting for others to finish up drills.
  4. Keyboard Board A. 
  5. Catch up on Skillbuilding Lessons. 
  6. If you are caught up, key each word on the MFUW #4 five times.  Remember to add a footer and put into three columns.  Print last page only.

November 12 and 13

  1. Log in.
  2. Drill #8.
  3. Log into Microtype and pull out your pink card.  Play Internet games while you are waiting for others to finish up drills.
  4. Take base rate timing for Keyboard Board.
  5. Skillbuilding I and J

November 10 and 11

  1. Log in.
  2. Drill #7.
  3. Pass out Keyboard Board sheets.
  4. Take base rate timing.
  5. Skillbuilding G and H

November 6 and 9

  1. Log in.
  2. Do Drill #6.  Save and close.
  3. Pass out practice cards.
  4. Take timing.
  5. Skillbuilding E and F.

November 4 and 5

  1. Log in.
  2. Do Drill #5.  Save and close.
  3. Skillbuilding C and D.  Remember to do each activity twice and to beat your initial timing at least once.  Also, remember to solve a puzzle.
  4. If you finish, play keyboarding games.

November 2 and 3

  1. Log in.
  2. Open daily drills.  Insert a new page  by pressing CTRL + Enter and do Drill #4. (Make sure your blank page is at the end of your document.)  Type Drill #4.  Save and close.
  3. Go to Keyboarding Skillbuilder.  Do each activity twice.  On the ones that are timed, take an initial timing and try to beat that time at least one time before moving on.  You must solve at least one puzzle on each lesson to get full credit.  If you run out of guesses, go to the next lesson and earn some more and come back to that puzzle later.
  4. Do Lessons A and B.

October 29 and 30

  1. Log in.
  2. Open up Daily Drills.
  3. Insert a new page at the bottom. (CTRL + Enter)
  4. Center and key title.
  5. Type Drill #3.
  6. Save and close.
  7. Finish Halloween packet.  Wait for instructions on printing.

October 27 and 28

  1. Log in.
  2. Open up your daily drills.
  3. Insert a new page by holding down your CTRL key and pressing Enter.
  4. Center and key the title Drill #2.
  5. Type Drill #2.
  6. Save (CTRL + S) and close.
  7. Begin the Halloween Packet.  Save what you have done and we will finish next time.

October 23 and 26 (This begins the work for 2nd term)

  1. Log in.
  2. Timing.
  3. Make a Drills folder on your M drive.  All drills will be saved here.
  4. Drill #1.  Save as Drill.1.
  5. MFUW #3. Type each word five times in three columns.  Add a footer, save as MFUW.3 and print.
  6. Play bookmarked keyboarding games.

October 21 and 22

  1. Log in.
  2. Timings.
  3. If you are done with everything and have an Internet form turned in, you may have free time.  Otherwise, do what you can today to bring your grade up.

October 19 and 20

  1. Log in.
  2. Timings.
  3. If you still have assignments for this term to complete, work on those first.  Otherwise, do Numeric Keyboarding 6 and 7.  Do not print these lesson reports yet.

October 13 and 14

Keyboard quizzes need to be made up this week!!!

  1. Log in.
  2. We will take two timed writings as a class.  If you meet the goal for the term on the 2nd one (25 wpm with 8 or fewer errors) print.
  3. MFUW #2.  Type each word five times in three columns.  Add a footer.  Save as MFUW.2.  Make sure your cursor is on the last page.  Press CTRL + P.  Select the box by Print Current Page and click OK.
  4. Finish up Numeric Keyboarding Lessons 1-5.
  5. Once you are done with EVERYTHING, you may come see me about what you can do.

October 9 and 12

  1. Log in.
  2. Picture review #3.
  3. Numeric Lessons 4 and 5.  Print reports.

October 7 and 8

  1. Log in.
  2. Keyboard Quiz.
  3. Numeric Lesson 3.

October 2 and 6

  1. Log in.
  2. Go to Numeric Keyboarding.  (There are 15 lessons that will teach you the keys along the top of the keyboard.)
  3. Complete Lessons 1 and 2.  Print your reports.

September 30 and October 1

  1. Log in.
  2. Picture Review #2.
  3. By now, you should have all 20 alphabetic lessons completed.  We will continue to review the alphabetic keys throughout the term.
  4. Open Microsoft Word.
  5. Add a footer.
  6. Set to three columns.
  7. Save to your M drive as MFUW.1.
  8. Type each word five times.  You should press enter once after each word and twice in between the sets of five.  Type all 100 words this way.
  9. Save again.
  10. Print.
  11. Go to my bookmarked sites and play some keyboarding games.

September 28 and 29

  1. Log in.
  2. Go to Edit and Skill Analysis and take a timing. Print.
  3. Make sure you have all 20 lessons complete.
  4. Print any and all lesson reports that you need added to your grade.
  5. Free time for all those who are caught up.

September 24 and 25

  1. Log in. 
  2. Do Lessons 18 and 19. (A day will have to wait until Monday to print.)
  3. If you finish early, go back and do build skill on each of the lessons.

September 22 and 23

Don't forget PT conferences on September 24!!!!

  1. Log in.
  2. Print lesson reports for 16 and 17 if you were not able to on Friday.
  3. If you are not caught up, now is your chance to do so before PT conferences Thursday.
  4. If you are caught up, you may have free time!!!! (You have to have your Internet form turned in to play games on the Internet.)

September 18 and 21

  1. Log in.
  2. Lessons 16 and 17.  (A day will have to wait until Tuesday to print.)
  3. If you are all caught up, you can play one of the games in Microtype or one of my bookmarked games.  NO other Internet games, paint, etc.  I have added some new games to my web site! 

September 16 and 17

  1. Log in.
  2. Lessons 14 and 15.  Remember to print lesson reports.

September 14 and 15

  1. Log in.
  2. Picture Review 1.
  3. Alphabetic Lessons 12 and 13.

September 10 and 11

  1. Log in.
  2. Alphabetic Lessons 10 and 11.
  3. Only if you are all caught up, you  may have some free time on the Internet.

September 8 and 9

  1. Log in.
  2. Alphabetic Lessons 9 and 10.
  3. If you finish, go back and do build skill one more time on each lesson.

September 3 and 4

  1. Log in.
  2. Alphabetic Lessons 7 and 8. Do each activity two times.  Print at the end of each lesson.
  3. If you finish, go to my bookmarked sites and practice.

September 1 and 2

  1. Log in.
  2. Dictation
  3. Alphabetic Lessons 5 and 6. Do each one two times.  Print at the end of each lesson.
  4. If you finish early, go back and repeat the games and try to beat your previous score.

August 28 and 31

  1. If you have not turned in Disclosures, please put them into the In basket.
  2. Log in.  (A1 and A2 need to learn how to log into their own user)
  3. Go to Edit and Skill Analyisis. Take a timing. Print.
  4. Do Alphabetic Lessons 3 and 4. Remember to do each tab two times.  Print at the end of each lesson.

August 26 and 27

  1. Choose permanent seat
  2. Turn yellow disclosure sheet and lab rules into the IN basket on the table near the door
  3. Review technique
  4. Logging in as your user (it is like having a file in the doctor's office).  You will do this from now on.
  5. Create a new user in MicroType.
  6. Log out and log back in. You will always go back to this user from now on.
  7. Alphabetic Lesson 1.  Repeat each exercise once so that you are doing each one two times.  Print at the end of the lesson.
  8. Alphabetic Lesson 2.  Do each exercise two times.  Print at the end of the lesson.
  9. Go to the links on this page and find the one for Guitar Hero. Click on the link and play the game.
  10. You must stay logged in and working on something keyboarding until three minutes before the bell rings for class to end.

August 24 and 25
