7th Grade Reading FUNdamentals

Olympus Junior High School

Mrs. Karren

Welcome back to school.  I am excited to be your new reading teacher. We will be doing a lot of reading in this class.  Notice that this class has FUN in its title!   In order for everyone to have a successful and FUN year there are a few guidelines we need to follow.

Class Rules:

1.       Be on time.  The school tardy policy will be followed.  After 2 tardies your citizenship grade will be automatically lowered.

2.       Be Prepared.  You will need a notebook with paper, writing instrument, and a free reading book everyday.  I will provide everything else needed.  We do a lot of fun activities so it is also helpful to have your own colored pencils or markers, however, they are not required.  Please leave toys and electronics at home.

3.       Be on task.  This means you need to follow directions and do what you are asked to do when you are asked to do it.  When you stay on task, you tend to get your work done which is then reflected in your grade.  Grades will be determined by class assignments, participation, quizzes, preparation, and daily reading.  The following grade scale will be used to determine grades:

A=92          B=81                C=67                D=54

A-=89         B-=77               C-=62               D-=50

B+=85        C+=72              D+=58              F=49 and below

4.       No complaining!  Please feel free to come and see me to discuss any concerns you might have.  I will always listen even if we disagree. (You’ll always get further talking adult to adult.)  Please try to be here everyday.  Some points cannot be made up when you miss class, although there will be some extra-credit available.

Please check with me for any make-up work after an absence.  You will have one week to get it in.  Any other late work will need a late pass (4 per quarter) or will be accepted for half credit.  You will also be given 4 hall passes per quarter.  All extra late and hall passes may be turned in at the end of each quarter for extra credit or prizes.

5.       Respect yourself, peers, teacher, and building.  Be kinder than necessary and remember that attitude is everything.  Pick a good one!

Rewards:

1.       Positive atmosphere (with a happy teacher)

2.       Game or activity day

3.       prize drawings/food

Consequences:

1.       Warning

2.       Lunch detention

3.       Communication with parents

4.       Time out

5.       Referral to administration
