7th Grade English

Olympus Junior High School

Mrs. Karren

Welcome back to school.  I am excited to be your new English teacher.  In order for everyone to have a successful year there are a few guidelines we need to follow.

Class Rules:

1.      Be on time.  The school tardy policy will be followed.  After 2 tardies your citizenship grade will be automatically lowered.

2.     Be Prepared.  You will need a notebook with paper, writing instrument, and a free reading book everyday.  You will have your own set of textbooks for home but they are extremely big and heavy so I will provide a classroom set also.  Watch for notice to grab the appropriate book before class starts.  It is also helpful to have your own colored pencils or markers, however they are not required.  Please leave toys and electronics at home.

3.     Be on task.  This means you need to follow directions and do what you are asked to do when you are asked to do it.  When you stay on task, you tend to get your work done which is then reflected in your grade.  Grades will be determined by class assignments, projects, quizzes, preparation, book reports, and reading.  The following grade scale will be used to determine grades:

A=92      B=81           C=67          D=54

A-=89     B-=77                   C-=62                   D-=50

B+=85   C+=72        D+=58        F=49 and below

4.     No complaining!  Please feel free to come and see me to discuss any concerns you might have.  I will always listen even if we disagree. (You’ll always get further talking adult to adult.)

Please check with me for any make-up work after an absence.  You will have one week to get it in.  Any other late work will need a late pass (4 per quarter) or will be accepted for half credit.  You will also be given 4 hall passes per quarter.  All extra late and hall passes may be turned in at the end of each quarter for extra credit or prizes.

5.     Respect yourself, peers, teacher, and building.  Be kinder than necessary and remember that attitude is everything.  Pick a good one!

Rewards:

1.      Positive atmosphere (with a happy teacher)

2.     Game or free reading day

3.     prize drawings/food

Consequences:

1.      Warning

2.     Lunch detention

3.     Communication with parents

4.     Time out

5.     Referral to administration

I am looking forward to working with you this year.  If you have any questions please contact me at Olympus Junior High (385)646-5224.  My consultation period is 6th period.
