Vocabulary Week 21 March 8-12
Add each word, and its definition (a.) to your spelling journal. Study the words during workshop each day. Look at their meanings and their definitions .Try to use the words in your speaking and writing during the week. Be prepared to be tested on the words on Friday. You might have to define them, you might have to write them in a sentence.
1. maneuver (muh-noo-ver) verb
a. To move something carefully into a particular position
b. Maneuver can also be used as a noun.
c. How are you going to maneuver that big SUV into that tiny parking space?
d. Big ships can be very difficult to maneuver
2. ascend (uh-send) verb
a. To move or go up
b. Antonym = descend
c. The helium balloon ascended into the air.
d. Another A+! I’m ascending to the top of the class!
3. propel (pruh-pel) verb
a. To drive or push something forward
b. Synonym = thrust
c. We decided to propel our food across the room, we got in big trouble.
d. If I had a super-duper jet pack, I could propel myself into the sky.
