March 15, 2010

17:

  • Correct spelling/vocab. test 23.
  • Read silently.  (Remember your book report is due March 31st!)
  • Hand in your published story and your writing process folder.

16:

  • Take spelling/vocab. test 23.
  • Finish publishing your story.

15:

  • Hand in parent survey.
  • Arrange to correct grammar.
  • Get writing process folder from me.
  • Read your story out loud and watch/listen for more mistakes.
  • Publish your story:
  • Publishing Instructions

    1.      Design a cover that includes the following elements:

    a.       Front cover

                                                                  i.      Illustration

                                                                ii.      Title

                                                              iii.      Author (you!)

                                                              iv.      Can be typed or hand-drawn

    b.      Back cover

                                                                  i.      Teaser (1-3 sentences or questions that gives a brief idea of what the story’s about and would make someone curious enough to read it)

                                                                ii.      Bar code and price

                                                              iii.      Can be typed or handwritten

    2.      Type a title page that includes the following items:

                                                                  i.      Title

                                                                ii.      Author

                                                              iii.      Publisher

    3.      Type a dedication page.

    4.      Arrange the story in an attractive manner.  Any of the following items would work:

    a.       Staple the pages neatly.

    b.      Place inside a report cover.

    c.      Fold a larger piece of paper for the cover.  Place the story portion inside.

    d.      Use another method that you approve with me in advance.

    5.      Hand in the completed product and your writing process folder by Friday, March 19.

14:

  • Arrange to correct and record spelling/vocab. 23.
  • Take survey and hand in.  (Ask me.)  Arrange for parent(s) to take survey.
  • Get notes on adjectives.  Complete grammar page 509 A (1-10 odds), 510 B (1-10 all), and 512 A and B (1-10 odds).  
  • On a separate piece of paper, keep track of adjectives throughout the week.
    • 10 you find while you read.
    • 10 to replace "good."
    • 10 to replace "bad."
    • 10 to replace "fun."
    • 10 to replace "boring."
    • 20 other adjectives you like.

15:

  • Arrange to correct and record BBR 118, 120, and 133.
  • Complete spelling/vocab. 23.
  • Get notes on "board" (timber/committee/food) and "bored" (tired, disinterested)


March 8-12, 2010: Absent Work

Every week:  Complete 20 minutes of reading for 5 nights every week.  Record on your calendar, and get it signed by the end of the month.

12th:

  • Correct sp./vocab. 22.
  • Read silently.
  • DON'T FORGET YOUR READING BOOK!

11th:

  • Take spelling/vocab. test 22.
  • Get notes on topic and theme from a classmate.
  • Get instructions for March Book Report (Perfect Plot and Opinion Paragraphs); ask me if you have any questions about how to complete it.

10th:

  • Finish, correct, and hand in grammar assignment.
  • Take and correct prefix/suffix quiz.
  • Hand in writing process folder.
  • Arrange to complete timed writing DWA practice.  (Ask me about this.)  Hand in.

9th:

  • Arrange to correct and record spelling.  Show to me.
  • Review all prefixes and suffixes.
  • Get notes on subject-verb agreement. 
  • Complete grammar (1-10 for each section) on the following pages:
    • 581
    • 582
    • 584
    • Ask me if you have questions about how to complete these.

8th:

  • Get D.O.L. 27.
  • Finish BBR pages from last week.
  • Complete spelling/vocab. 22.
  • Copy notes on "a lot" and "allot."
  • We voted on new words for the trimester:
    • "taco"=when you hear a spelling/vocab. word
    • "skadoosh"=when you do something wrong and have to pay me
  • Find out your new seat and partner.
  • Review all prefixes and suffixes.

Reading and Reports

February

This month's book should be a Mystery .  The book report is a special project called "Puzzle Piece Book Report."  Students will receive instructions (which can also be downloaded on this site) and materials in class.  Hand in the completed report by Friday, February 26.

February's reading calendar is due the same day--Friday, January 29.

Next month's report will be a book of the student's choice from the list of selected titles that matches his or her SRI (Lexile) score from the beginning of the year.

Every Month

1.  Read 100 minutes per week, and record your time on the calendar you receive in class. 

2.  Obtain the parent signature at the end of the month, and hand in calendar.

3.  Make sure you read the genre assigned that month.

4.  Complete the book report assigned for the month.

Routines: Weekly and Make-up Procedures

1.  Check my website (http://my.uen.org/79194).  Good job, because you're already here!  Search the blog at the top to find the outline of what we've been doing to see what you've missed.

2.  Copy the homework, starter, and notes from a classmate.

3.  Double check the homework, starter, and notes from 1-2 more classmates to make sure they're accurate.

4.  Pick up any paperwork you missed from the basket on the back table on the left.  Make sure it's from the 3rd basket, labeled in purple.

5.  Hand in any makeup work to the basket on the back table on the right.  Make sure it's the 3rd basket, labeled in purple. 

6.  Arrange to take any tests or quizzes you missed within one week.
