Upcoming dates to remember:

The trimester officially ends on November 19.  The cut-off for German 1 and 2 and for language arts is Friday, November 13th.  All late and absent work must be handed in by that date to receive credit.  Introductory classes (7th grade German) will have until Wednesday, November 18.

November 11th is Martinstag in Germany.

November 9th is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Language Arts classes should hand in their book reports by Friday, October 23 and reading calendars by Wednesday, October 28.

Language Arts classes should prepare the final drafts for the Halloween newspaper assignment and have them in class on October 30th.

Parent Notes

Skyward
1. When viewing your child's grades, please keep the following items in mind:

  • A "0" grade not marked as missing means that the student handed in the assignment, but it was either too late for credit or completed incorrectly.
  • A "0" grade marked as missing means that the student either didn't hand in the assignment or handed it in without a name on the paper.
  • *=The class has not been asked to hand in the assignment yet, or the teacher will be recording it soon; these are posted to notify parents and students of upcoming and late assignments that, when recorded, will affect the grade. Although some "*" assignments appear as missing, that's only because Skyward automatically lists them in that category once the due date has passed. Only assignments marked as "0" and missing have been noted by the teacher.

2. Also consider the following when viewing the grades on Skyward:

  • Many factors, including student understanding, will influence the due dates and total possible points for the grades posted on PowerSchool. The dates and total possible points may change when they are actually recorded, but what you see on PowerSchool will provide an outline for what to expect.
  • Eighth- and ninth-grade student scores are weighted as follows: 20% participation and preparation (they'll know this as "Zahl mir" points; 40% assignments (including practice sheets); 40% tests and quizzes. If you have any questions about how this works, please contact me.
  • Seventh-grade scores are not weighted.
  • The individual pages (see the tabs above) for each grade level include additional information about assignments, extra copies of in-class documents available for download, and links for further support.
  • It takes time for late and absent work to be recorded, even if the student has handed it in. If you would like to verify that your child has handed in an assignment that does not appear on their grade, please contact me and I will let you know the status of the assignment.
  • Every trimester I receive many, many papers without names on them. If your child insists that he/she has handed in an assignment and they did not receive credit for it, please have them check the no-name basket first. If it is not there and they still feel there has been a mistake, have them talk to me before or after school to investigate.
