March 15 (A) and 16 (B)
Today we corrected pages 8 & 9 and the top of page 10 in class. (Actually, there is a little more correcting that we need to do at the first of the next period, but it should go pretty quickly as we got the bulk of it out of the way today.) Next class period we will start a case study on Joseph Stalin.
March 11 (A) and 12 (B)
1) We finished, in class, the section of the "World Government and Economic Systems" packet on the Communist Manifesto. If you were absent or did not finish, go to "My Documents" and you will find a copy of the class reading. Use it to finish that part of the packet.
2) We spent 1/2 of the period in the writing lab. The students were asked to do some research on some communist dictators in order to become familiar with the tactics, etc. of a communist takeover. The options were as follows:
Mao Zedong
Fidel Castro
Joseph Stalin
Vladimir Lenin
Ho Chi Minh
Pol Pot
Kim il Sung
Kim Jong il
Mikhail Gorbachev
The students were also told that they could look up general terms, like totalitarianism, communism, dictatorships, etc.
The students were then asked to just take notes, in outline form, and submit them by the next period (March 15/16)
March 9 (A) and 10 (B)
Today we took the Southeast Asia map test and began work on pages 8-10 of the "World Government & Economic Systems" packet. We will finish pages 8-10 on the 11th (A) and 12th (B) and begin work on Marxism: The Historical Reality (also on page 10).
March 4 (A) and 8 (B)
Today we completed pages 6 & 7 of the "World Government & Economic Systems" packet.
March 2 (A) & March 3 (B)
In class today, we discussed some philosophical underpinnings of prevalent government/ecoonomic theories. This, hopefully, will serve to inform our more in-depth study of the Declaration of Independence and the Communist Manifesto. The students took some notes on the PowerPoint presentation (if absent, they can get the notes from a friend) and completed page 5 in the World Government & Economic Systems" packet.
On page 5, the students were not expected to know all the information; therefore, any missed questions DO NOT count against them. This is just an introductory assignment.
February 26 (A) & March 1 (B)
Today in class we went over the first 4 pages of the Governments packet. We also spoke about some of the basic theories and philosophies of government and economic systems. There is no homework!
February 24 (A) & 25 (B)
Today we took the Central and East Asia map test and worked on the Governments Packet. The students should have the first four pages of the packet done at the beginning of class by 2/26 (A) and 3/1 (B). Pages 3 and 4 need a reading packet in order to answer the questions. The reading packet is in "My Documents." It is entitled "Governments Packet Reading."
