Language Arts 10B - The Literature Circle books MUST be turned into the library ASAP or there will be no credit on the Reader-Response Log!

The Characters and Readers Project for William Goldman's book The Princess Bride is due on Wednesday, May 27th!

5/29/08 - AP English Literature - I posted the students' final grades.  We finished watching the rest of the DVD of Wilde's play The Importance of Being Earnest that we read as an AP Book Club book.

5/29/09 - Language Arts 10B - I posted the students' final grades.  We finished watching the rest of the DVD of Goldman's book The Princess Bride.

5/28/09 - AP English Literature - All of the make-up work and late work was turned in today.  I finished collecting the rest of the textbooks and novels.  Our final activity is watching the DVD of Wilde's play The Importance of Being Earnest. 

5/28/09 - Language Arts 10B - The students turned in their final assignment - a satire, and I also collected the remaining books.  All of the make-up work and late work was turned in today.  As a final culminating activity, the students watched the DVD of William Goldman's book The Princess Bride. 

5/27/09 - AP English Literature - Today the students turned in their Reader-Response Log for the Literature Circle novel.  Next, we went into the writing lab and completed the Spring My Access Benchmark prompt.  They also completed a My Access Student Survey while they were in the lab.  ALL MAKE-UP WORK MUST BE TURNED IN TO ME BY THURSDAY, MAY 28TH!  NO EXCEPTIONS!

5/27/09 - Language Arts 10B - Today the students turned in the rest of their books.  Next, we went into the writing lab and completed the Spring My Access Benchmark prompt.  They also completed a My Access Student Survey while they were in the lab.  ALL MAKE-UP WORK MUST BE TURNED IN TO ME BY THURSDAY, MAY 28TH!  NO EXCEPTIONS!

5/26/09 - AP English Literature - The students turned in their literature textbooks today, and they should make sure that they bring back any of the novels or Cliff Note books that they still have.  For the first 15 minutes of class, the students met together to determine a role for the discussion and then they worked individually preparing for the meeting.  Each of the groups got together, and the discussion leader directed the discussion for the day.  Following the Literature Circle Meeting, the students completed a self-evaluation form and scored each member of the group for participating and preparation.  The students should finish their Literature Circle books tonight and complete the Reader-Response Log for tomorrow.  ALL MAKE-UP WORK MUST BE TURNED IN BY THURSDAY, MAY 28TH.

5/26/09 - Language Arts 10B - Today the students turned in their Characters and Readers Project, their Bride Review Packet, and their books.  The rest of the hour was spent completing the final unit test on William Goldman's book The Princess Bride.  ALL MAKE-UP WORK MUST BE TURNED IN BY THURSDAY, MAY 28TH.

5/22/09 - Language Arts 10B - At the first of the hour, I reviewed the schedule for next week and reminded the students that all make-up work MUST be turned in by Thursday, May 28th.  Students were sad to hear that Goldman made up the entire Morgenstern frame for The Princess Bride.  The students turned in their literature textbook and their language textbook.  The rest of the time was spent completing a review packet on Goldman's The Princess Bride.  On Tuesday, the students have a lot of work to turn in:  Characters and Readers Project and the review packet (they worked on today in class).  The students will take the final test on the book on Tuesday and turn in their novels.  Have a wonderful holiday weekend!   

5/21/09 - AP English Literature - Now that we are back to normal in the classroom, we started our Literature Circle discussions today.  For the first 15 minutes of class, the students met together to determine a role for the discussion and then they worked individually preparing for the meeting.  Each of the groups got together, and the discussion leader directed the discussion for the day.  Following the Literature Circle Meeting, the students completed a self-evaluation form and scored each member of the group for participating and preparation.  The students picked a different role for tomorrow's meeting.  The assignment is to continue reading the Literature Circle books and prepare the assigned role for tomorrow in class.

5/21/09 - Language Arts 10B - At the first of the hour, I reviewed the process for completing the "Characters and Readers Project" on Goldman's The Princess Bride.  We spent some time talking about "dominant impression" and the adjectives that would describe the six main characters of the book.  We finished reading aloud Chapter 8 "The Honeymoon" today in class.  The assignment is to write a 5-paragraph essay analyzing one of the characters from The Princess Bride.  Students will be turning in their grammar and literature textbooks in class tomorrow, so they should plan accordingly. 

5/20/09 - AP English Literature - After a long year and four long days of Core Testing, we finally got to have our celebration day.  Thanks for being such a terrific class.  Come prepared to discuss your Literature Circle books tomorrow in class.  All make-up work for the entire trimester must be completed NO LATER THAN Thursday, May 28th!

5/20/09 - Language Arts 10B - After finally completing the Core Test, the students had a quiz on Chapters 5-6 of William Goldman's novel The Princess Bride.  Next, we conducted our own version of the "Battle of Wits" involving CANDY and an EXTRA ASSIGNMENT.  The assignment is to finish reading Chapter 7 for tomorrow.  The "Characters and Readers Project" is due on Tuesday, May 26th, so the students should be working on it daily. All make-up work for the entire trimester must be completed NO LATER THAN Thursday, May 28th!
