MR. SELK Rm. 110

COURSE: Algebra 9

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Algebra 9 is a preparation course for Algebra. Students will learn to value math, review, and enhance basic arithmetic skills, and become more confident in their ability to reason mathematically.

CLASS RULES:        1. Follow directions the first time.

                                    2. Be prepared, in your seat, when the bell rings.

                                    3. No put downs, disrespect.

                                    4. Don’t touch or take others’ things.

                                    5. Practice cooperation skills.

                                    6. Work quietly.

GRADES: A student’s grade will be derived form his/her class assignments, worksheets, and tests. Work not finished in class will become homework due the next day. Late assignments will lose 5 points per day, with a maximum of 10 points being lost per late assignment. Students who have excused absences can make up the assignments by checking with the teacher to find out what was missed and when it will be due. All students will make test corrections to all tests and then have their tests re-evaluated after the corrections have been made. There will be extra credit worksheets as well, that the students are responsible for picking up when available.

Students, please seek my help if you are having problems, extra help can be arranged before or after school.

Students Citizenship grade will follow the school policies for attendance and classroom behavior. Disruptive behavior will have a negative effect on the citizenship grade.

MISC.: Use of calculators will be allowed in class. On some assignments however I will encourage the students to work out the problems on their own without the use of a calculator. I have a set of TI-73 calculators that will remain in class and that the students can use. If students have their own calculators they can bring those and use them in class, make sure they are marked with their name so that they do not walk off.

Parents/Guardians your support is extremely important and greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, concerns, or special needs, contact me at school. My consultation time is 7th period for the first semester, and 6th period for second semester. Call and leave a message for me at the office or email me, and I will respond as soon as I can.

To allow students to learn from others by both giving and receiving feedback, and to assist me in using instructional time as efficiently as possible, I will occasionally have students correct one another’s work.
