Rubric

Below is a rubric for assessing oral presentations. Assessments will occur once a month on any of their regularly scheduled show and tell days.

3 Capable

  • The child looks at the audience while speaking.
  • The child speaks clearly
  • The information is presented in a clear, straightforward way.

2 Developing

  • The child makes some eye contact with the audience.
  • Most of the presentation is audible.
  • The information can be understood, but the order may not always be logical or sequential.

1 Beginning

  • The child rarely looks at the audience while speaking.
  • The child speaks too softly or too indistinctly to be understood.
  • The information presented may be confusing.
Instructions

Show and Tell

Your child’s Show and Tell Day will be on an assigned day of the week.
Show and Tell consists of showing an object and describing it or telling about an object. So, if an object is forgotten at home, the children can tell about it. There will be a theme each month to aid in choosing what to bring for sharing with the class.

September – Favorite photograph
October – Book
November – Something your child has made
December – Hobby or collection
January – Joke
February – Something you child has written
March – Hidden Object (use 5 descriptive clues and the class will guess)
April –Poem (try to memorize)
May – Choice (Please bring any animals/pets during May. Please send a note a day prior to bringing any animals.)

Laughing In order to make Show and Tell time valuable, please help your child choose an item each week to share. Please practice with your child. Because Oral Language is part of Second Grade Language Arts Curriculum, participation and practice are important.
