This concerns the Confickr worm (virus) that has been in the news lately is set to "update" on April 1st (tomorrow). If your computer has been properly patched and your antivirus software updated and working then there is nothing to worry about, But...
It has come to our attention (UVU IT Technician) that many computers on campus and many
home computers are not being properly updated and protected or have
become infected through another means. PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING TO
PROTECT ALL YOUR COMPUTERS.
1. Check to make sure that Windows Updates are all up to date by going
into Internet Explorer and under Tools clicking on Windows Updates and
following the instructions (or going to Microsoft's website and under
Security & Updates go to Microsoft Updates).
2. After updating your computer (including re-booting), check your
anti-virus software to make sure that it is updated to the latest
version and that it is automatically updating itself. For McAfee you
right-click on the red M in the lower right-hand bar and select Update
Now. Please watch for errors and if you are getting errors, please contact the IT HelpDesk (863-8888) or your area computer technician.
3. Perform a thorough scan of your files by right-clicking on the red M
and select VirusScan Enterprise and then select On-Demand Scan. Check
to make sure that the following(below) are in the middle box and then
click Start (found on the left side of menu in the middle):
Memory for rootkits
Running processes
All local drives
Registry
Cookies
Include subfolders should be checked as well as Scan boot sectors!
If your machine is infected and Cleaning or Deleting is not successful,
please contact the IT HelpDesk or your area computer technician.
Please check the www.uvu.edu/oit/security website for information on how to make sure that McAfee is properly working.

MAC USERS
If you have a Macintosh and are running Windows on it, you should
follow the same precautions. You should also check for MAC OS updates
as well even though this particular virus does not affect the MAC OS.
Please make sure that your MAC is protected with an up to date
anti-virus program. There are viruses and Malware that do affect the
MAC also.
