Math is a daily homework event. Assignments are due the next morning at the beginning of math class. I give one, 5 point quiz each week on any day of the week. If a student is absent for the quiz they do not get to make that up.
The school has implemented a math lab requirement for those students who do not complete assignments for the week. Math lab is held on Fridays for one hour after school. It is my policy that all assignments must be turned in by Thursday at the beginning of math class in order to avoid math lab. This includes the assignments and tests that need to be reworked because of low scores. Mrs. Adamic will call the parent informing you of the incomplete or late work.
I also send home progress reports during the term. Look for them on Fridays. A student who brings a signed progress report back to school earns 1 point extra credit.
Students are required to have a 3 ring binder, given to them from the school, and 5 tab dividers, purchased on their own. Keeping track of their assignments in their 3 ring binders is very important. The binder will be graded on neatness, completeness, effort, showing their work and thoughtfulness of journal entries.
All assignments are to be done in pencil! No assignment or journal entry is to be thrown away until the end of the term when we have a clean out party. Skill drills are given each day and will be timed tested (3 min.) on test day. On test day, they are worth 10 points with no one receiving less than 7 points. It is expected that each student will diligently try to complete the skill drill and improve his time and score each day.
The students will keep a weekly log for assignments, tests, quizzes and scores. A parent can use the log to determine if their child is turning in all their work and to know scores and grades. When a parent asks to see their students notebook on a regular basis, then the student is more likely to keep their notebook and log up to date and organized.
Math lessons are scored 20 points. Students who miss more than 6 problems on any math lesson are to rework the missed problems in order to assure they understand the work and are progressing.
Tests are given after every 5 lessons. Students who receive a 79% or lower on a math test are to rework the missed problems as homework. This will help to ensure your child is building on concepts he understands rather than falling behind slowly. I award an average of the two scores.
Any student may choose to rework test problems for more points at any time. I award an average of the two scores.
Late assignments are accepted up to the LAST 5 assignments only! They will be graded fairly and then scored one letter grade or point lower.
