Instructional Technology

This is an introduction to the use of technology in educational settings. Instructional uses of technology will be explored and tied to current theories of learning to help you make decisions about how to effectively integrate technology across content areas. Students will learn to use a variety of technological applications to support teaching and learning.

Each tab is set up for different projects you will be responsible for completing. By the end of the semester you should have a well designed MyUEN page for the grade and content area you will be teaching.

Under the other Tabs you will find individual assignments, your reading, web sites pertaining to the assignment(s) subject, images supporting the content material, tutorials, and instruction.

Computer Lab Etiquette
Although it is tempting, please do not use the computers during lecture and/or student/guest presentations. This includes Internet surfing, email, cell texting, chat, and/or typing and printing papers. Use of the computer at inappropriate times will keep you from receiving your participation points, points taken from assignments, and from receiving and/or understanding class material key to completing assignments.
Participation points are provided for those who become a part of the class community: contribute to class discussion, arrive to class on time, stay for the full class period, maintain computer etiquettes, etc… Remember class attendance is part of taking charge of your own education.

MyUEN is used heavily in this course and you will receive all correspondence and communication through MyUEN. Our class MyUEN web page address: http://myuen.org/60036 . Therefore, you should plan on checking the class MyUEN often and especially before coming to class.
What you will find on the class MyUEN.

  • Course announcements and materials.
  • Course syllabus.  Information and Communication Tools (e-mail, discussion forum, assignments, projects information, multimedia   information, Internet readings, & class roster).
  • Student tools (personal homepage, grade book, digital drop box etc.).
  •  Resources on integrating educational technology into teaching and learning, including access to various educational web sites.
Using MyUEN is required.

This is a lab-based course and you will spend time surfing the Internet, developing technology skills, reflecting on reading, learning to use technology to create projects for the classroom, and discovering new technological strategies for student learning. The best way to learn technology is by doing it; therefore, attendance at each class meeting is expected and required. Being a part of this class is important. Sharing your thoughts and reactions to readings, speakers, and general class discussions is helping you and your classmates understand technology. The input of each student is valued and valuable.

Note: If you are late during presentations, please remain outside until the break.

Weekly Reflections
You will post weekly blogs (reflections) on your Blogger account. Every week I will give you some possible questions you can contemplate before you post your blog, but they are only starter questions. You will be expected to reflect on your experience with our technology class and your vision of integrating technology into your future classroom.

Reflections will be due by midnight Wednesday of each week following class, beginning September 9. No late reflections will be accepted.

Assignments, Points, and Grades
Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the dates indicated on the web page. Late assignments are subject to a penalty of 10% per calendar day. Exceptions are possible if you follow this guideline: notify the instructor before class on the due date of an assignment with a valid excuse to be granted an exception for a late assignment. You are strongly encouraged to work with a classmate to critique and proofread one another’s assignments. Each of you is likely to submit better papers and projects as a result of that process.
Excessive typographical and grammatical errors detract from your work and will be reflected in your grade. Written assignments should be submitted in APA Style (5th Edition). See http://www.psywww.com/resource/APA%20Research%20Style%20Crib%20Sheet.htm

Note: academic tutoring is available for those who need additional help in understanding how to use APA format and write better papers.
Go to http://www.uvsc.edu/owl or call 863-8310 for help.

Lab Activities are due the night of class. Should you miss a night you have one week to submit your work. If you have difficulties in completing the Lab assignments and need assistance please contact me (pam.turley@nebo.edu).
