Reading Response
20 pts.
What’s required:
At home, you should be reading for 120 min. each week. You may read any printed, published text. I would suggest any of the following: novel, informational text, newspaper, magazine, and/or textbook. The internet and email are not acceptable reading for this particular assignment.
You will use a form to account for your reading. Forms can be picked up in the classroom, or downloaded from my website. Remember to write in complete sentences and pay attention to your grammar.
Your response portion can include questions, reactions, predictions, new understandings, summaries, and opinions. However, it cannot just be a book recommendation. If you have read more than one text, choose one to discuss.
When it’s due:
Your Weekly Reading Response will be turned in each Friday. It may be turned in for two additional school days for late credit. Reading Responses will not be accepted after the two late days.
How it is graded:
12 pts. for 120 minutes (1 pt. per 10 minutes)
5 pts. for summary/response
3 pts. for book title
Total = 20 pts.
Extra Credit—2 pts.
If you want to earn extra credit, have a parent/guardian sign your Reading Response form!
Alternative Option—3 pts.
If you didn’t get your reading done, you can accept responsibility for not doing your work and sign the form in the appropriate box. (Yes, if your parent/guardian signs the form, too, you could earn 5 pts. total.)
