Announcements

My consultation period this year is 4th (normally from 10:42 - 11:32 M-Th).

This year in the Art Department, we are offering the following classes:  Intermediate Art, Drawing 1 (the high-school level beginning art class), and Photography .  In order to take one of these art electives, students must first take (and pass) Art Foundations (or "Art Fundamentals").  Please talk to one of the counselors or me for more details about each class.

DEADLINE to turn in makeup work or "re-do's" for 1st term:  Friday, October 23rd, by 2:30 p.m.  Any work turned in after the deadline won't be graded.  Sorry, I won't have time!

Consultation Period :

 Email through:  http://www.graniteschools.org

Curriculum:

Intermediate and Advanced Art are continuations of Art Foundations, with further emphasis on drawing, color, and design concepts.  These courses will also further reinforce the four disciplines of art:  aesthetics, art history, art criticism, and art production (2-dimensional and 3-dimensional).

CLASSROOM RULES:

--Responsibility

            1.  Come to class prepared.  (ALWAYS bring a pencil!)

            2.  Come to class on time.  (Be IN YOUR SEAT when the tardy bell rings.)

--Respect

            1.  Sit.  Stay.  Shhhh.  (We all work better without chaos.)

            2.  Inappropriate language is unacceptable.  So is saying “I can’t!”

            3.  Yours, mine and ours:  If it’s not YOURS, don’t touch it without permission.

                        Clean up after yourself.  Take turns with things we share.  Don’t damage

                        property.

Consequences:

First violation = warning            Second violation = sign Citizenship Book; call parents

            Third violation = sign Citizenship Book; call parents; office referral

If the violation is serious (fighting, etc.) you will be immediately referred to the office.

GRADING:

Projects are graded on a point system:

A = 95-100      A- = 90-94      B+ = 85-89      B = 80-84        B- = 75-79      C+ = 70-74

C = 65-60        C- = 60-64      D+ = 55-59     D = 50-54        D- = 45-49      F = 0-44

Projects handed in late will be docked 10% of your grade per day.

Projects handed in on time may be redone for an improved grade.

End-of-term assignments WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE—no exceptions!

Extra Credit:  It will be accepted only with assignments that are handed in on time; it is worth only up to 20 points; and it must relate to that particular assignment.

Make-up work:  You will have the same number of days to complete a missed assignment as the number of days you were absent.  (After that, it’s considered late.)

HOMEWORK: You have a choice of homework sketches or an “altered book.”

SKETCHES: 20 half-hour sketches per semester.  Turn in 10 at midterm and 10 at the end of the term.  Sketches should be drawn from real, 3-D observations, and shaded.  Sorry, no cartoons or fantasy drawings will be accepted.

ALTERED BOOK:  Do 20 single pages or 10 double-page spreads per semester, PLUS THE COVER.  Turn in ½ at midterm and ½ at the end of the term.  Altered book pages can incorporate any media (collage, paint, ink, etc.) and illustrations do not have to be “from real life.”

 Advanced Art students will be required to submit a portfolio at semester's end.
