Announcements

There is no homework in this class, unless you have been absent.  Otherwise, please do your assignments in class, where I can help you.

My consultation period this year is 4th (normally from 10:42 - 11:32 M-Th).

Assignments

human body running

If you are at home and can't see the "Robocop" poster, you can copy this for your first body drawing instead.

Please check the Grades program to see what assignments you may be missing and how much they are worth.  In this beginning class, we will be doing mostly 2-dimensional work, moving from black and white into color.

IMPORTANT:  The deadline for makeup work for 1st term is Friday, October 23rd, by 2:30 p.m.  No later--no exceptions!  I won't have time to grade it if you turn it in after the deadline!

Art Foundations                                                                                    Ms. Moffat

                                                                                                Consultation Period:

                                                                                    E-mail: kmoffat@graniteschools.org

Curriculum:

This is a required beginning art class, which must be passed in order for you to take any other art or photography class.  We focus mostly on 2-dimensional art; we also emphasize art history, aesthetics, and criticism.  Objectives:  By the end of the semester, you should have developed skills vital to making art by rendering structure, value, scales, shapes, texture, depth, and color in a picture.

CLASSROOM RULES:

--Responsibility

            1.  Come to class prepared.  (ALWAYS bring a pencil!)

            2.  Come to class on time.  (Be IN YOUR SEAT when the tardy bell rings.)

--Respect

            1.  Sit.  Stay.  Shhhh.  (We all work better without chaos.)

            2.  Inappropriate language is unacceptable.  So is saying “I can’t!”

            3.  Yours, mine and ours:  If it’s not YOURS, don’t touch it without permission.

Clean up after yourself.  Take turns with things we share.  Don’t damage

                        property.

Consequences:

First violation = warning            Second violation = sign Citizenship Book; call parents

Third violation = sign Citizenship Book; call parents; office referral

If the violation is serious (fighting, etc.) you will be immediately referred to the office.

GRADING:

Projects are graded on a point system:

A = 95-100      A- = 90-94      B+ = 85-89      B = 80-84        B- = 75-79      C+ = 70-74

C = 65-60        C- = 60-64      D+ = 55-59     D = 50-54        D- = 45-49      F = 0-44

Projects handed in late will be docked 10% of your grade per day.

Projects handed in on time may be redone for an improved grade.

End-of-term assignments WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE—no exceptions!

Extra Credit:  It will be accepted only with assignments that are handed in on time; it is worth only up to 20 points; and it must relate to that particular assignment.

Homework:  All assignments should be completed in class, where I can help you.  You will have homework in this class only if you are absent (or didn’t turn something in on time)!

Make-up work:  You will have the same number of days to complete a missed assignment as the number of days you were absent.  (After that, it’s considered late.)

CITIZENSHIP POLICY:

Citizenship grades are based on your effort, attitude, and behavior in class, and on unexcused absences and tardies.  A “4” is considered “honors” and can be earned by doing community service.  If you wish to raise an undesirable citizenship grade, come to me before the end of the term so we can work together toward this goal.

Students will be given a sketchbook for this class.  It is optional if you would like to bring your own colored pencils and hand sharpener.

Arts education has lifelong benefits!  Among other things, you will learn  creative thinking skills, complex problem solving, multiple perspectives, and visual communication skills that will help you with many jobs and situations beyond high school!
