ABOUT DEANNA

Every human being, of whatever origin, of whatever station, deserves respect. We must each respect others even as we respect ourselves.

~ U. Thant

I am a teacher at City Academy, a public Charter School, in Salt Lake City. As you can see from the quote I have chosen above I firmly believe that equal respect of all  life is essential, no matter who we are in life or what we do

At City Academy I wear many hats! I am the Coordinator of the Educational Support Services Department, I am the Service Learning Coordinator, I am the Yearbook Advisor and I am an 11th grade advisor.   (You can visit the other tabs on my page to see what those programs are all about!)

Most importantly, I am a participant in a community where everyone is expected to make learning the top priority, working together to make that learning happen in a way that benefits and impacts every single member and the larger community beyond our school walls.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

10.09.2009, Salt Lake City – A team of students and staff will participate in the American Cancer Society's
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on Saturday, October 10, 2009 in Liberty Park, Salt Lake City beginning at
9am.

The Wellness Committee, a student led committee, signed City Academy up for the annual event. “Each of us has our own reasons for caring about the fight against breast cancer ,” states Scott MacMurdo, faculty advisor for the Wellness committee and the school's P.E. Teacher. “In only a 5-
minute conversation with my Wellness Committee students, I was amazed at how many 'grandmothers,
friends' mothers, and other people' they knew who had been affected by breast cancer. Together we
will make a difference, make history, and make strides.”

11th grader Hannah Mar Franti will be part of City Academy's Team. “I am walking this Breast Cancer
walk because my best friend's mom, who was like a mom to me, died when we were in 5th grade. Also,
my neighbor's mom has been a survivor of breast cancer several times over.
"

So far the team has raised over $200.00 towards the team goal of $300.00 through its personal page on
the event's website.

The team plans to travel to the event on its bio-diesel school bus, which will be parked at Liberty Park.
City Academy, an accredited public charter school serving grades 8-12 is located at 555 East 200 South
in Salt Lake City, providing a unique learning environment focused on students developing and
demonstrating knowledge and competencies in academic areas as well as in personal citizenship.

EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY FOR PHOTOS AND INTERVIEWS.
