Assignments

Student Responsibilities:  5 P’s

1.       Prompt (On Time) – On time to class and follow directions when given.

2.       Prepared (Need pencil and paper) - We do work in class and you need these supplies.

3.       Proud (Do your very best) - A focus this year will be for quality work!!

4.       Polite (Respect yourself, others, and property) – No exceptions to this!  It  will not be tolerated.

5.       Productive (On task) - Why waste time?  Use the time in class to learn!

Class Responsibilities:

I expect the behavior to allow me to teach the class and also allow each student the chance to learn and ask questions.  I would rather reward good behavior than take away for bad.

Assessments are weighted:

1.      Assignments/Projects (50%) - Assignments are given each class and corrected the next time we are in class. When required, in-class notes are worth 10 pts of that day’s assignment and are included with the assignment.  Homework is necessary to learn math.  These assignments will be to give you a chance to practice what we have learned.  Each day we will start the class with a Self Starter questions or activity.  This will be included in the assignments category and graded based on the student’s participation.

2.      Tests/Quizzes (50%)  -  This is your chance to show me what you have learned. “Test Corrections” can be done on tests.  This involves correcting all the missed questions on a separate sheet of paper and turning in both the corrections and the test.  I will give as much as half the missed points back to the student.  There will be a comprehensive exam at the end of the year, CRT’s, covering all materials we covered.  This will count on the student’s grade.  This should be a chance for students to demonstrate what they have learned through the course of the year.

Letter Grades are based on the following scale:

A       93 - 100

A-        90  -  92

B+     86  -  89

B       83  -  85

B-        79  -  82

C+     76  -  78

C       70  -  75

C-        67  -  69

D+     63  -  66

D       60  -  62

F         0  -  59

Homework/Make-up work:

·         Homework will be given most class days.  I would expect 30 minutes or less would be the common amount.  However, I assign the homework to help the student learn the material and make the assignment accordingly.  Students are encouraged to turn in their work when it is due.  We will go over the problems as a class and help with problems the students have.

·         All Tests and Quizzes must be made up at the earliest possible time.

·         I keep a list of assignments on my Web Page along with Test help and information.

Calculators:

We will use the TI 84 or TI 83 in class.  I have calculators for the students to use if needed.  However, it is beneficial for students to have good arithmetic skills and not rely on the calculator.  Inasmuch as the High School will require you to have different calculators as the student moves on in math, I don’t ask students to get their own at this time.  The TI 84 plus calculator will do everything you will need through calculus unless you go to a class that requires a different one.  If you want to have a TI 89 you certainly can, but I will teach to the 83’s and 84’s.

Citizenship:

Ø                   Follows the school policy and is graded as such (see the student manual).  I expect students to give their best effort academically as well as personally.  The classroom should be a safe environment.  Any behavior that disrupts that safety will not be acceptable.

Ø                   Cheating is becoming more and more prevalent.  This is completely unacceptable and will be dealt with as such.

Ø                   Any behavior that makes another student uncomfortable is unacceptable- so just don’t do it.  Any behavior that helps others is completely acceptable – so just do it.
