Parents,

A big "thank you" to everyone who joined us for the food fight on the 16th!  When I had students fill out an evaluation form the next day, I asked them if it was valuable to have parents join them as they participated.  Here are some actual comments from students:

• "Yes, because they had better ideas than us."
• "Yes, because they helped us to narrow down our ideas."
• "It was fun to see my mom's writing style."
• "Yes, because my dad used to be a sales manager and he came up with a lot of good ideas."

So, just in case you're wondering if your students want you to be part of their education, I think the answer is a resounding YES.  Look forward to being invited to another one of these writing activities sometime during 2nd trimester.  In the meantime, please take every opportunity to discuss evidence of persuasive writing every time you see it on TV, when driving, in stores.  Persuasion is all around us!
