What's Worth Reading at Hillside

Pretties is a pretty good book. Tally, the main character, has finally become pretty. She has parties to go to, places to see, and food to eat. She even has an amazing boyfriend named Zane. From the moment Tally meets Zane, she knows he’s different from the other pretties. He’s level-headed and bubbly. But things don’t last in Tally’s new world. A messenger from her past arrives and things begin to fall apart. Tally is forced to make a life and death decision. Pretties is a fascinating story about what might happen when we become obsessed with appearance (as if we aren’t already!) Pretties is the sequel to Uglies, the first book of a great dystopian series.

After reading Magyk and Flyte, I’d become familiar with the whole thing & was becoming bored. Luckily, Physik re-spiked my interest. In this book a whole new realm of possibilities open. Never had alchemy (able to change one thing into another, like tin into gold) or time travel been introduced before in my reading. Main character, Septimus, goes on magical travels. The book’s cliffhanger has left me hungry for more. I think everyone should read this series beginning with Magyk and ending with Physik.

Paul works at Cold Mountain, the place where the most vile criminals reside until they meet their end seated in "Old Sparky" the prison’s electric chair. Paul didn’t think much about the murderers at Cold Mountain until John Coffeey arrives. John is a monstrous man convicted of a terrible murder. But it’s John who teaches Paul an incredible lesson, one that he carries with him for the rest of his life. You will be on the edge of your seat, turning pages late into the night to find out what happens to Paul, John, and the rest of the characters that fill Stephen King’s creepy novel.

When Darcy Stevens gets a job babysitting the Foster kids, she notices a black car following her. Soon after, a stranger knocks on the house door pretending to work for the local gas company. Darcy didn’t expect her new job to involve kidnappers, but she and the Foster kids prove to be a smart team as they try to outwit their surprised kidnappers. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction. It is Willo Davis Roberts’ best book! It’s an "edge-of-your-seat" page-turner.
