Important Dates

Important Class DUE Dates: I have divided each term into two blocks of time. Any assignments, quizzes, or tests that are assigned before midterm may not be retaken or turned in after midterm deadlines. Students should plan ahead and make sure they retake and turn in their materials on time.

The first half of class was spent in the computer lab working on the biome project. The second half was spent finishing a class activity called "Griggsland."

Thurdsay October 29

Today we did a class activity called "The Commons." This is an activity that cannot be made up. Students who missed it will have to do an alternate assignment. This assignment will include reading "Twilight of the Cod' and then answering the questions that go with it. Also, students need to be ready to present their powerpoints on Monday/Tuesday to the class and their rough drafts are due the same day.

Monday Nov 2

Today in class we discussed "The Commons" activity and then we got SLC folders ready. Students also had to bring a rough draft of their paper to class today. Those who had, had a peer review of the paper done. An adult review of the paper was handed out and needs to be completed and turned in with the final paper. Final papers are due on Friday, November 6th for 'A' day students and on Monday, November 9th for 'B' day students. We began student presenations on their enviorments.

Wednesday Nov 4

SLC Conferences today. We spent the class doing student presentations. Final papers are due next class.

We spent today doing student presentations. We will finish the last few presentations next class.

Tuesday Nov 10

Today we finished class presentations. Students turned in their presentation notes.

 

Thursday Nov 12

Today we began our new unit, on freshwater. We did some notes and a powerpoint on the hydrosphere. Students who were absent will need to get those (hydrosphere notes and powerpoint). We then began a new assignment. Students were assigned a partner to do a demonstration with. Students practiced their demonstration at the end of class. Students who were absent will need to talk to me when they return.

Monday Nov 16

Part of class was spent doing research in the computer lab for the student demonstrations. Students need to be ready to explain and show their demonstration in class next time. Each student needs to understand what is going on and be ready to answer any questions about it. If students did not finish the blue sheet that goes with their demo in class today, it is homework. We also had a discussion about where water is located in the world. Students who were not here are responsible for the information. Students will have a quiz on it. See the "Water, Water, Everywhere" document.

Wedensday Nov 18

Begin water demonstrations in class. Students are responsible to teach the class their demo. Students will be filling out a gold sheet during these demonstrations. If a student is absent, he/she will need to do a make-up assignment.Students will have a quiz over the "Water, Water Everywhere" document next class.

Friday Nov 20

Students took a quiz on the locations of water on Earth. See the "Water, Water Everywhere" handout. Students who scored below a 7 will have an "I" on their grade. We then finished the properties of water demonstrations. For students who had an excused absence, there is an alternate make-up assignment. Students need to write a paragraph explaining each property of water and give an example of each. The five properties are: solubility, surface tension, capillary action, density, and phase changes. This should be typed and double spaced. Finally, we began some notes on the water cycle.
