Personal education planning is essential at the secondary level.  This Student Education and Occupation Pal (SEOP) should involve students, parents and educators.

 

At least one individual and one samll group conference should be conducted involving the student, parent(s), and an educator.

 

Each student and his/her parent(s) shall be invited to attend an SEOP conference at a scheduled time and place. 

 

Earnest and persistent effort should be made to ensure that all students and parents attend the SEOP conferences. 

 

Individual SEOP conferences should, if possible, be held in a room that will allow for quiet and privacy.  SEOP may be used as a part of a student's personal portfolio. 

 

Secondary SEOP conferences shall include:

       -An opportunity to recognize the student's strengths and accomplishments.

       -An opportunity to review relevant data towards the student's educational progress toward graduation requirements, possible work options and internships as well as post secondary options and requirements.

       -An opportunity for students and parents to review Board approved interest and aptitude tests.

By the end of grade 8, students should have chosen a vocational or career interest.  This interest is a tentatively chosen area only and may be changed at any time. 

 

By grade 9, a student's plan should include any intent of early graduation.  Assessment, management, and accountability expectations as well as the development of guidelines shall be the responsiblity of the principal.  The Principal shall provide evidence that at least one individual and one small-group SEOP conference was held and that the avove listed standards were met.
