Parent Notes
Parents: The classes have just finished reading Nothing but the Truth by Avi and will soon be starting Animal Farm by George Orwell. This will be a complex read for them as we will explore socio-political aspects of the story. If you find it bennificial, you are welcome to provide a reading help such as Sparks Notes or Cliff Notes for your student. This would be supplemental and not a replacement for reading the origional text.
Parents: We have a student teacher in the class; Ms. Ence from BYU. She will be coordinating with me on all curricular and class issues. I am excited to mentor such a well prepared student teacher. We will be starting to read Nothing but the Truth by Avi then we will be reading Animal Farm by George Orwell. The addition of a student teacher has changed our reading list, so it looks like we will not get to read Life of Pi afterall. Please encourage your student to read this on their own, it is a great read.
Parents: I want to thank you for helping your students keep up on their grades. As freshmen become more and more involved in sports and extracurricular activities it is crucial that grades not slip. Sadly, some students get away with it for a while then the reality of their situation becomes overwhelming. If you don't already, please check their grades often. It is much easier to address issues in a preventative way then at the end of term, for example.
Please note the SIS link. Please use it and look up your student's grades. If I am not current, please email or call. I will do my best and hope to make this a great way to keep up on your student's grades. Note how the grade is broken up in standards. Those match the ninth grade core. This way we all know how an assignment fits in what we're doing. I hope this is helpful. Again, email if you have any questions. Welcome parents to my Freshman Honors English page. I urge you to bookmark this page and use it frequently. I update this every few days and it is full of great resources. Feel free to navigate around this site. There are links all over the place. Note the calendar has links on the dates that are underlined. That means I have added something to that date. I like to use the 'Month' tab. It gives you a great visual of what is going on in class. All files I think you and your students need are in the documents area. These will be removed at the end of the term to make room for new materials. I hope you are as excited about this page as I am. I am trying my best to increase parent notification and communication. This is a great tool. If you feel your child's other teachers ought to be using this, feel free to let Mrs. Isakson know. (Personally, I think all the faculty should have a page they maintain) | Announcements Hello everybody. I had a great time teaching on the 12th of March. Ms. Ence was off for the day and it was fun seeing everybody. Make sure to see the calendar, as there are some updates.
The night of Student-Led Conferences, Ms. Ence will be in room 180 and I will be up in the office.
