I am excited to have your students back in class this week. One of the great things about a charter school is seeing familiar faces again. I love knowing the personalities I am teaching at the beginning of the year. All of my students will need to bring a book to read for silent sustained reading each day in class. Why not help them choose a book you liked reading as a teenager? A book discussion is a great way to get your teen to talk to you without the typical "yup," "nope," or "nothin'" comments! Remind your student at the beginning of the year that the best way to earn a good grade is to turn in ALL of the assignments. School Affiliations

| Announcements I would love to have parent volunteers come in to any of my English courses and talk about how they use English in their lives. For example, we'd love to hear about web design, technical writing, secretarial work, journaling, story-writing, editing, or any other use of reading and writing skills that you might put to use frequently. In other words, all of you are qualified to be a guest speaker! Please call me - my extension is 2280 - after school if you'd like to fulfill your volunteer hours in a very productive way.
