Study Hall-In 6th grade we have a Study Hall from 2:15-3:00.  Students during this time work on homework, receive additional help, and conference with their teachers.  However, we do have Library for ½ an hour once a week during this time.

Spelling Packet is given out on Mondays and is due Thursday.  If your student is unprepared with the spelling packet, he/she will be given the opportunity to practice spelling words during recess.

Spelling Tests are on Thursdays.  Students can retake the Thursday Spelling Test during Monday Study Hall (70% and below is a mandatory retake).

LA Homework Journal :

Penmanship 5X:  On Tuesdays students will be given the penmanship practice quote for the week.  They are required to write the quote 5x.  We will write it the first time in class together.

Response 5 Entries:  On Tuesdays students will receive the Tuesday edition of the Standard Examiner.  We will search for an article of interest, cut out, and paste the article in our Journals.

Entry 1:                 Mrs. Lovell’s choice (usually respond to the penmanship quote)

Entry 2:                 Respond to the newspaper article (this article reminds me of, what I think about this article is, what if ……?,     etc.)

Entries 3-5:         Student’s Choice  (They have a list of possible things they can write about in the front of their journal, if nothing comes to mind.

Each entry MUST be at least 5 sentences long.  Hopefully, students will begin to write and not count sentences; there is joy in writing.  I will never read a student’s journal entry unless they ask me to.  Homework is graded on doing it or not doing it=complete/incomplete.  These journals are to stimulate daily writing habits and get the ideas flowing.  Students will have an opportunity to expand on these writings, if they choose, throughout the year.

I ask that students record what they are reading and what page number or chapter they are on each night.  Like so:

                8/31/09

                                Hatchet                                pg. 32

                9/1/09

Hatchet                                pg. 39
