For macro pictures getting closer is not the only way to get a magnified image. The macro lenses increase the focal distance which increases the size of the image. For macro pictures having high megapixels is a little more important than just your basic photography. By using a camera with more megapixels you have the ability to crop more and to still get a quality photo.

I loved using Picasa. It was so easy to use and had a lot of really cool effects. It was kind of hard to do the project though because i lost my camera in Disneyland and so i lost all of my pictures. So i just used some of my different friends pictures and got as many as i could that fit in the specific categories. I also really enjoyed making my album in photoshop because it turned out a lot better than i thought it would and it was just fun to work and look at the pictures we'd taken. As a teacher i would defineitely want to have projects like this for my students to work on. Not just because it is something that i absolutely love to do, but because it was a great learning experience and depending on the way you do it, it can give each student an opportunity to show off what they have done and for them to use a little creativity.

I did a short course on using a digital camera and I learned a lot that could help me when using a camera with my students. Something that they would need to know is to keep the camera very still and to push the button very smoothly so that pictures turn out focused. Another thing that was interesting was the different types of backgrounds and lighting. By just changing your angle the picture totally changes and the kids need to understand that there is not just one ways to take a picture the lighting can make a whole bunch of different, but still great photos. The last part was about caring for your camera which is so important when you are letting students use them. It showed me how to clean the sensors and the lenses. This was helpful because students might touch the lenses and getting them cleaned correctly is so important.

When I was looking around at a lot of the websites I saw some pretty amazing cameras with really cool features, but for my classroom I would probably purchase an inexpensive Sony or Cannon. I think that they are a good choice because they still take great pictures and they aren’t so complicated that they will confuse the students. They are also lightweight which makes them great for handling.

I would want to have my own personal camera that I would use for project and photographing the kids at various activities, but I would want to have at least 6 cameras so that they could use the camera in small groups when they are doing things like science projects. A really good idea that I like was that students would take pictures of what they were doing in any given activity that way they could track their progress and keep track of what they had done.
