Dear Parent(s),
I am really enjoying your children! We are having a fantastic year and are learning lots! I just wanted to remind you to make sure your child is reading for thirty minutes at least five nights a week. Also, spelling tests are taken on Fridays, so remember to study!
We will also be having a Valentine's Day party on Friday, February 12th. Your child is welcome to bring Valentine's for the class. Please look for our updated student list to be coming home with your child early next week. Also, if you choose to have your child hand out Valentine's, remember to make sure they have one for all of the students in the class. Students can also pass out candy that they bring to share with the class!
Thanks to all of you for continuing support you give you child. It sure shows in the classroom!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Timothy

Dear Parent(s),
I have had such an amazing year with your children! It's sad to see the year coming to a close, although I am excited to still see everyone in the halls next year! I just wanted to remind you of the importance of reading regularly during the summer and still practicing math skills. It's easy to get out of the habit of practicing regularly, but please realize that your child could lose up to 1/3 of their skills during the summer months! Yikes! Please make sure to keep practicing!
I also wanted to say thank you for all you have done to help out this year and for supporting your child and helping him/her be successful. Parent support is very important for first grade and you should all be applauded! I hope you all have a fabulous summer!
Sincerely,
Ms. Carson

Dear Parent(s),
I am so excited for our fieldtrip to the Tulip Festival on Monday the 4th! Thanks so much to all of our parent volunteers for donating their time to come with us! We are looking forward to exploring the gardens and seeing all of the different kinds of tulips!
Thanks also for all of your generous donations for our birdfeeders! The students really enjoyed making the birdfeeders and I bet the birds are happy, too! We had so much fun doing our rotations for Earth Day and it really wouldn't have been possible without your generousity!
I can't believe it is May! We will be starting our CRT testing this Tuesday, May 5th! We are hoping to be done on Thursday with the language arts section. We will be going to the computer lab to do a little math testing, but we are still working on a schedule and I will keep you posted on when our scheduled times will be. Please remember to make sure that your child gets lots of rest during CRTs and has a good healthy breakfast!
Sincerely,
Ms. Carson

Dear Parent(s),
I can't believe how fast the year is going! I am having such an wonderful time teaching your children! They are all amazing! I am so impressed by them every day!
This coming Wednesday (April 22nd) we will be doing Earth Day Rotations with some of the other first grade classes. We will need a few supplies, if you are able to help out. We will be making bird feeders for Earth Day and we will need peanut butter, pipe cleaners, pine cones, bird seed, and zipping sandwich baggies! The activities will be very fun and educational for the students and we are excited about teaching them ways to appreciate our Earth!
We will also be lucky enough to go on another fieldtrip this year! We will be going to Thanksgiving Point for the Tulip Festival on May 4th. We will leave right after school begins, so please have your child here on time! Attending the festival will really tie into our Interconnections curriculum, as we will just be wrapping up our segment on plants.
I am planning on our conducting our CRT tests beginning on May 5th through the 8th. We will take more time if needed. Please make sure that your child is at school on time and has had a good breakfast and lots of sleep!
Thanks again for all you do! I feel so fortunate to have such helpful students and parents this year! I really appreciate all your hard work and dedication!
Sincerely,
Ms. Carson

Dear Parent(s),
Thanks so much to those of you that assisted the class on our fieldtrip to the Living Planet Aquarium yesterday! The students had such a great time and were able to see whaty the rainforest and the coral reef are like. We also looked for patterns on the animals, for different shapes on the animals, and determinded if they had fins or legs. We all really enjoyed petting the stingrays and the other creatures that were available, such as starfish and sea urchins! Also, thanks so much for all of your generous donations! I believe that we are set on Kleenex for the rest of the year and handsanitizer. We could still use some more clear plastic cups and dry erase markers, if anyone is able!
Please be looking for the April book order, which will come home on March 30th. Please make checks payable to Scholastic and return orders by Friday, April 3rd. Remember, you can also place an order online. Feel free to contact me if you would like to order online but have misplaced the class username and password.
Also, March reading calendars are due on April 1st. This will be the last month this school year that students will receive certificates for a free personal size pizza from Pizza Hut!
I really can't believe it is alread the end of March. I am having such a wonderful year working with your children! They are all so amazing and unique. It sure is going to be hard to part with them for the summer! Thanks again for all you do!
Sincerely,
Ms. Carson

Dear Parent(s),
Things are going great in out first grade class! The whole class is working hard to develop reading and math skills. We have also started learning about Australia. The class will be making a coral reef in our class, with the help of Mrs. McKay, our art mom. The students are very excited and have been learning about an Australian animal called the echidna, or spiny anteater in dance. We will be having a dance informance, likely toward the end of February. Keep your eye our for a note about the date, as we haven't quite decided, but we'll let you know as soon as we do!
The William Penn Science Fair will be held February 12th. Parents are welcome to come see the displays, which will be up from 4-6 p.m. Also, please be aware that there is no school on February 16th, as it is Presiden'ts Day.
Our 100s Day Party will be next Friday. Please send your child with 100 of something to share with the class. The following Friday we will have our Valentine's Party. Your child is welcome to bring Valentine's and candy to share with the class. If your child chooses to bring Valentine cards, please make sure to give one to everyone in the class.
Also, please make sure to keep up on the nightly reading. It is so important in assuring that your child is on track for second grade. Also, please remember to check your child's folder on Mondays to get a jump start on studying for the spelling tests, which are on Friday! Thank you for all of the sacrifices you make to help your children complete their work. It is very much appreciated!
Sincerely,
Ms. Carson

Dear Parent(s),
I hope you all had a restful vacation. It's great to be back at school and hard at work! Please continue reading with your child every school night for at least 20 minutes. It's important to keep students in their routine, even through the holidays, as they do forget new reading skills they have recently obtained. Also, please remember to watch for the weekly spelling test words that come home with your child every Monday. The spelling words directly coorelate to the spellings we are focusing on in class and are really good practice for them. Thank you all for keeping up on the math homework. It is such a great reinforcement to practice at home and is great at letting parents know what the class is working on!
I wanted to quickly remind you all that there is no school next Friday, January 16th, that means that Thursday, January 15th is a half day of school. Please remember to pick up your child at 1:30 for early dismissal. There is also no school the following Monday, January 19th, as it is Marting Luther King Jr. Day. Enjoy your long weekend!
Thank you all for being so generous with donations of time and supplies. Your dedication to your child's education is wonderful and is really appreciated!
Sincerely,
Ms. Carson

Dear Parent(s),
I can't believe that the holidays are just around the corner. This year sure is going by quickly! It was good to see all of you a couple of weeks ago at Parent-Teacher Conferences (SEPs). Everyone is so busy this time of the year and I really appreciate you all taking the time to meet with me.
This week, and for the next several, we will be learning long vowels during out literacy block in the morning. In math we will be working on measuring (non-standard and standard forms), telling time to the quarter hour, and we will continue to work on money. In social studies we will be finishing up with what it means to be a good citizen and health.
Thank you so much to all of you for your wonderful donations of time and supplies for our classroom! Please refer to the calendar below for upcoming events. The Holiday Concert, which parents are welcome to attend, will be held December 18th at 9:15 a.m. Hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Ms. Carson

Dear Parent(s),
Thank you so much for making our Halloween party such a success. The class really had a good time and the students were very grateful for you hard work and planning. I am so excited to have your children in my class. I am really enjoying teaching them and getting to know them. They are all very motivated and eager to try their hardest. Remember, Parent-Teacher Conferences are on November 19th and 20th. I will be getting those scheduled soon. I am really looking forward to meeting with you again and updating you on how your child is progressing. Please remember the importance of getting your child's math homework turned in and reading with your child at least 5 nights a week for 20-30 minutes each time. The one-on-one time really helps them make improvements and can help instill a love for reading.
Please remember to send your child with a jacket and warm clothing as the winter approaches. Also, picture re-takes will be on November 20th. Again, I am looking forward to our meeting and feel so fortunate to be teaching your child!
Sincerely,
Ms. Carson

Dear Parent(s),
Thanks you for you wonderful attendance at parent teacher conferences last week. It was so great to meet you and your children. I am very excited to get the new year started! During the first couple days of school we will be doing a lot of activities to get to know each other. I will also be assessing students to find out what they know and what we need to work on. We will be working hard to build a classroom community where all of the students feel safe and able to learn.
I realize that the parent teacher conferences are a lot of information all at once, so I though I would send out a quick reminder about some of the important things to remember for this year. First, I spoke with many of you about volunteering. I was so glad to see so many names on the list! Once we have had a chance to get up and running I will have Alicia Crofts, our awesome classroom coordinator, give you a call to determine what type of volunteering you are interested in (in the classroom or helping prepare things for our classroom at home). We will be having literacy primarily in the morning and it would be great to have a parent assist with some of the centers, if possible!
Please remember to read with you child 20-30 minutes at least 5 nights a weeks, as it really helps them with their reading skills. Also, please make sure to check you child’s homework folder nightly to look for assignments in math that say ‘Home Link’ at the top of the page, completed work, information from the school, or field trip information.
Again, I am so happy to have met all of you and to have your child in my class!
Thanks,
Ms. Carson
