We are beginning our new novels. Each student will be required to read 1 chapter per day (except the Tuck Everlasting group which will be reading 2). They are also required to write 3-5 connections each day. These connections will be written in full sentences and readable by Mrs. Belt. Connections can be to self, text, world (movies, tv shows, other reading, my life, my family, etc.)
Just a note about our novels. Students are not allowed to read ahead in the novels we are assigned. They need to stay with their group so that they don't spoil it for the others, also because they need to write in their journal each time they read. Some students have a more difficult/long book to read. The next one they get will be easier. If your child has a super easy to read book, the next one will likely be very difficult. They are all within the 5th-7th grade reading level, but different amounts of pages, etc.
