We are in new novel groups: Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Goose Girl, Wednesday Wars and the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.  There will be writing assignments each day.  Charlie & Lion last for 10 days and the groups will switch books.  Wednesday and Goose last for 20 days before a switch.  Each student should have plenty of time to do their work in class.  We will continue to have comprehension quizzes and reading fluency checks.

For the 2nd half of the year, the reading fluency checks will be less often, but have stricter standards.  The students should be reading over 125 words/minute with 98% accuracy.  This will earn them a "10".  If they read with 95% accuracy, it's an 8; 90% accuracy is a 7 (C); below is a 6 (D).  If the child reads less than 125 words/minute, then they aren't at "mastery" in this class (mastery is a B).  Below 125 wpm with 98% accuracy is a 7 (C); 95% is a 6 (D); below that is a 5 (F).  If your child is struggling, please help them by having them read aloud at home.

   Keep having your child read at home for at least 20 minutes.  Also, have them read aloud every once in a while, to improve their accuracy.
