...make up for missing class?

Too often, people think, "Oh, I can miss choir.  We don't do anything in there anyway."  Please remember that Choir is a team sport.  You would not expect to play in the football game if you were not at practice.  The same holds true for a choir performance.  We cannot perform as a united team if people are regularly missing class.  When you miss a class, you have 2 options that can be used to make up the particpation points.  You may choose to do ONE of the following 2 options:

  1. Practice your CHOIR music for 30 minutes for EACH day your were absent.  You must have a note signed by a parent or guardian specifying HOW MUCH TIME you practiced AND which days you are making up.  Please turn this note into the box for your class.  Once it has been recorded, your participation points will be restored.
  2. TYPE a one-page, double-spaced, 12 pt. font composer report for EACH day you have missed.  This may be on ANY composer from ANY time period, including modern song-writers.  Turn this into the box for your class.  When it has been recorded, your participation points will be restored.
  3. If you have missed multiple days, you may choose to do ANY combination of the above two options that you choose.

...make up for a "gum" mark?

It is important that students not be chewing gum in a choir class.  It is impossible to sing properly when chewing gum.  Students are expected to get rid of their gum on the way INTO the classroom.  Any student who is chewing gum in class loses their participation points for the day and receives negative points towards their citizenship.  However, because it is possible to simply "forget" to throw your gum away, I allow students to come in before or after school to make up these points by scraping gum off of the bottoms of the chairs.  (Yes.  I am very aware of how disgusting this is.  My hope is that the students will learn how disgusting this is and have more respect for the things in our classroom and have a strong reminder to get rid of their gum in a timely manner next time!)  30 minutes of working in my classroom will erase ONE gum mark.
