On this tour, you can find out how to develop an education and career plan to help you reach your goals. You can also pick up useful tips on job hunting, resume writing, and interviewing techniques. 1. Develop a Student Education Occupation Plan better known as anSEOP (See Below). Think about what you want to do and find out more about the kind of training, education, and skills you will need to achieve your education and career goals.
2. Assess your career interests and work styles (See the "TOOL KIT AREA" Below. Think hard about what you enjoy, what you are good at, what kind of Personality you are, and the values you hold.
3. Research the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Find out more about the nature of the jobs that interest you, such as educational requirements, salary, working conditions, future outlook, and anything else that can help you narrow your focus. America's Career InfoNetfor occupation information in your local area including company name, address and contact name. Download nearly 300 career videos.
4. Develop an education plan to meet your career goals. This plan may include Career Pathways (See "Occupation Listed by Career Path" below) beginning in 9th grade. These pathways help you explore your Career Interest Area (See Chart of "Career Interest Areas" below),as well as prepare you with the Essential Skills & Knowledge Standards (DESK)*1 needed to be successful. Develop the transferable skills necessary for success in both school and the world of work. Review study skills for high school students and for middle level students needed to be successful in the classroom. Review your individual learning style using the Index of Learning Styles Questionaire.
5. Select a college or University ( See the College/University page), that offers a college degree or training program that best meets your career goal and financial needs. Find out about College and University Admission Requirements. Review Go College, College Board, orCollege Quest for national college searches.
6. Find out about Financial Aid to help support you in obtaining your career goal. Review Scholarship information and register for scholarship searches at FastWeb or College Board.
7. Learn about Job Hunting Tips as you prepare to graduate or move into the job market. Prepare your Resume, and practice Job Interviewingtechniques.

Purpose of the SEOP
Public education has the mandate to develop within the hearts and minds of each new generation the qualities of a moral populace, strong scholars, committed citizens, and active workers. The founding fathers knew that without these qualities, provided through public education, our nation would not long endure. The City Academy accepts this mandate and focuses its work around the four primary purposes of public education:
- Essential Learning Skills
- Civic Responsibility
- Career Preparation
- Personal Development
Educators collaborate with individual students and their parents to form a plan of action (SEP/SEOP) which ties these four primary purposes to the needs and goals of the student through the instructional process. | |

- What should I expect from an SEOP conference?
| The SEOP conference includes a review of each student’s strengths and accomplishments followed by a plan to reach individual goals in each of the four purposes of education. This process helps to prepare students with the skills, knowledge, values, and commitment to life-long learning necessary for successful and satisfying adult lives. |
- Is registration just another form of the SEOP?

This site includes FREE personality and interest assessments, current career and job market information, career pathways available for course selection, college and technical training programs, resume writing, job interviewing techniques, scholarship and financial aid information.

Planning at School School counselors are trained in educational and career guidance. Counselors and educators administer academic tests, career and interest assessments, and help interpret results for continual growth and planning. They advise students on course selection, career training and college options. The SEOP is much more than just an annual conference. Activities that help students become aware and explore their dreams are part of curriculum and instruction, class assignments, school activities, civic and service learning and personal enrichment. The SEOP conference is an opportunity to celebrate student achievement, evaluate and adjust goals, and develop a plan.
