Happy Holidays! We are now in the Christmas season and everyone is getting excited. We are studying some very interesting things this month. Below is an outline of what we will be doing.

Language Arts: Spalding - Suffixes (er, or, less, ly) ♦ Homophones (its, it's) ♦ Parts of speach (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs etc) ♦ Writing (poems, biographies, auto-biographies, reports, letters etc.)

Language Arts: Core Knowledge Sequence - Fiction (The Little Match Girl, Excerpts from The Wind in the Willows) ♦ Sayings and Phrases (Feather in your cap, The last straw)

Science Part I: The Human Body - Nervous System (Brain, Spinal cord, nerves, reflexes)

Science Part II: The Human Body (The Muscular System, The Skeletal System)

Visual Arts: Design - How the elements of art work together (Figure and ground, pattern, balance, and symmetry)

Music: Melody (movement) ≈ Orchestra (Woodwind instruments) ≈ Composer (Aaron Copeland) ≈ Songs (Simple Gifts)

Field Trip and concert Night, Tuesday, December 4th.

1. Field Trip - We will be attending the Nutcracker performance at Pleasant Grove High from 9:30 to 11:00 ish. We might walk or ride the schoolbus. Please make sure your child wears Monday uniforms. We would hate for them to miss it.

2. JHCS Annual Winter Concert - Students participating in the concert must arrive at 6:30 at the Jr. High. The performance begins at 7:00

3. November Think-Time reward - The think time reward will be on Monday, December 3rd during school hours.

Parent Notes

I. Some parents have been having trouble accessing SIS (JHCS grading system) If you are having trouble, please let Mrs. Elmer or myself now.

2. Just another reminder to make sure and check your child's math answers before signing their math papers. Some students are coming back with wrong answers.

3. The last day of school for December will be on the 20th. It is a full day (UNFORTUNATELY), but we will be doing some fun things, including a party!
