Certified Nursing Assistant Program

 


 

The Davis Applied Technology College offers a program designed for Adults and High School students that leads to certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

 

What is a C.N.A:Nurse - Nursing Assistant Adult T-Shirt

·        The Certified Nursing Assistant is an important part of the health care team directly involved with “Hands-on” patient care of the sick and elderly.  Once certified, students may gain employment in many health care areas, including long-term care facilities, assisted care facilities, hospitals, in-home care, and hospice.

A nursing assistant will provide care in all of the following areas, while under the supervision of a licensed nurse:

·        Taking and recording vital signs

·        Measuring and recording height and weight

·        Caring for the resident’s environment

·        Recognizing abnormal changes in body functioning and the importance of reporting such changes to a supervisor

·        Caring for residents when death is imminent

·        Personal Care Skills:

Bathing and Toileting

Assisting with eating and hydration                       

Skin care                                                       

Transfers, positioning & turning

 

CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT COURSE

 

The C.N.A course is 80 hours of training with 24 hours of required practical training in a clinical setting.   

Available class times are:

Adults

Monday- Friday                                            9:10 am- 2:30 pm

Monday/ Wednesday                                   3:00 pm- 6:00 pm

Tuesday/ Thursday                                      3:00 pm- 6:00 pm 

Monday-Thursday                                        6:00 pm- 9:00 pm

 

High School Students

 Monday- Friday   (A or B day)                     7:30 am- 10:30 am

Monday- Friday   (A or B day)                     11:30 pm- 2:30 pm

The course is also available during the summer months.

 

C.N.A Certification is required for nursing school applications at all colleges.  It is also required for the Surgical Technology program, and recommended for other health care professions.

 

 

REQUIRMENTS

 

You must be 16 years of age or older before applying. (If in High School-You need to complete a schedule and transmittal with your high school CTE coordinator.  )

 

Starting wages for C.N.A 's range from $8.50 per hour to $12.00 per hour, depending on the facility that you work for.

Effective June 1, 2004: High School students must purchase the textbook in addition to the workbook

Monthly fee            $60.00**

Lab Fee                  $100.00
