Our math curriculum has been divided into 81 lessons that will last from September through April. Each lesson includes a short, 1-page assessment that must be mastered. I expect the students to keep the assessments in their binders, and these assessments will supplement the journal as a source of review and reference. (Assessments won't even be graded until they are completed correctly; I will allow students as many revisions as needed!) The first try of an assessment will be done in class, but corrections may need to be done at home so students don't fall behind. Copies of the assessments may be downloaded from this web page; although, because they are tests, they may not be done with specific parent or peer help.
Homework will be assigned every day, Monday-Friday. Sometimes one side of the homework is an optional enrichment page. Students will know they are optional because they will contain the letter "e" (for extra credit) in the top right corner. Homework and challenge pages also may be downloaded, and completing them correctly will earn extra money for the students. Homework pages are required and will earn students class money also. Failure to complete homework may result in students not earning enough money to attend monthly incentive activities. It is a really good idea to complete assignments every day!
We begin every day with a "math minute" review. All assignments may be corrected for additional credit. Corrections may be submitted any time before report card time!
I will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 8 a.m. to help with math assessments. This tutoring time will only be available to students who have completed their homework for the day. I will help with corrections to previously done assessments so the students won't fall behind.
