ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are over half way through the year!

Please continue to check your student's homework folder and do homework DAILY.

You can help your child at home by rhyming words, singing songs, reading together daily, counting many different objects, and grouping those objects in different ways.  TALK to your child about what he or she is doing, what you are doing, and the world around us to develop oral language and vocabulary.

Remember to bring your homework folder to school every day!

Sign up for the afterschool program!  Each session is six weeks long and offers different activities.

The last session will begin the second week of March and go until May.

The school day begins at 9:00 and ends at 3:45.  Fridays are always short days and get out at 1:30 pm.

The day before a No School day will always be a Short Day.  Short days end at 1:30 pm.

Thanks to all those who participated by turning in reading minutes for the contest!  Our class read over 10,000 minutes!  Thanks to all the families who participated in the Muffins with Mom and the Donuts with Dad reading parties before school.

IMPORTANT ONLINE LINKS
WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?

Reading:

We will be using the Imagine It! reading program this year.  It is divided into 10 units.  We are in Unit 6: North, South, East, West.  We are learning about maps and how we use them.  We know that maps need to have a key or legend, a scale, and a compass.

Help your child at home by letting them express themselves in writing without having to correct everything.  Read together daily for at least 15 minutes.  The reading tab on this page has many links to online games and activities that will help your child practice what we are learning in class and to extend their learning even further.

Math:

Everyday Mathematics is a program based on national standards.  In Unit 6 we are practicing our basic math facts.  First graders need to add and subtract to 18.  We will be using special flash cards called math triangles to help us learn the facts and the relationship between addition and subtraction.

Under the math tab on this webpage there are links to online websites your student can use to practice what we are learning in class.  You can also go to the 1st grade math curriculum link at the USOE.org website for more information on the skills your child needs to develop by the end of the year.

Interconnections:

This is our social studies and science curriculum.  We are discussing water.  We know there are three states of water: solid, liquid, and gas.  We know that water is all around us, and we need water for many things.  There are links to online games and activities under the Interconnections tab on this webpage to learn more about what we will be discussing in class.
