The BTS Portfolio will be primarily an Electronic Portfolio that will include photographs and video clips of your teaching in the side-by-side model.· How do you create an Electronic Portfolio? o Professional Development Workshops are available. o BTS Regional Meetings will also provide professional development training in these areas. Please ask your Lead Coordinator about these options. o Also, the Utah Education Network offers free service training for Utah Public School Teachers in the area of technology education as well as photo shop classes on line at www.uen.org. Contact them for more information, they are happy to help.
Please include the following in your portfolio for year one:a. Outline of Individual Artistic Goals – The following areas may be included under this item: educational goals, artistic goals within the art form, as well as your goals within the realm of arts education.
b. Samples of student work – pictures and video clips. Visual Art Specialists feel free to video tape an art exhibit with your students discussing their individual art pieces. Their artwork is showcased as they take the audience on a video tour of their exhibit. Scanned artwork or pictures of student work is valued as well. Dance, Music, and Drama specialists, please provide photographs and video clips of “informances” and student productions.
c. Weekly Instructional Plans – Please include three instructional lesson plans from three different grade levels that clearly identify side-by-side instruction and arts integration through the core. These lesson plans are of your choosing and must be used in letters d and e to showcase your lessons being taught inside the classroom with your students.
d. Examples of integration of arts in academic learning – video clips of the aforementioned lesson plans in letter c.
e. Evidence of the side-by-side model implementation – video clips of the specialist working alongside their classroom teacher as indicated in the aforementioned lesson plans in letter c.
The original portfolio information included the following, which was amended to the above for the 08-09 year (b. assessments were not included for year one):
University partners will have the responsibility to collaborate with BTS arts specialists, the school arts team, and the District Arts Coordinator (where available) to:
1. Create an individual professional development portfolio for each BTS Arts Specialist and participating school. The portfolio will include: a. individual artistic goals for each BTS specialist b. skill performance assessments (evaluation of student performance in the art form) c. samples of student work d. weekly instructional plans e. examples of integration of arts into academic learning f. evidence of the side-by-side model implementation (See Program Model Document)
