Odyssey Charter has read research which says that students learn and retain spelling words more efficiently if there are no more than 8 words assigned per week.  Thus, each student will receive a spelling packet which contains 8 words and 4 bonus words.  Each packet will consist of a variety of spelling activities to help them learn and retain the words.  The lists will be posted under the documents section of this page.  If your child has lost his or her packet, you may print it off this sight. Students will be working on these packets in class and should be able to finish them by Friday.  If students have not used their time wisely, then they will need to finish the packets for homework.  Each packet is due on Friday.  There will also be a test every Friday.  Please look at your childs spelling words each week and have them practice spelling, reading, and using them in a sentence.

HOMEWORK:  Students will generally not have spelling homework per say, with the exception of practicing the words at home.  However, if they have not used their time wisely, then finishing their packets before Friday will become homework.

GRADES:  Students will be graded on their completeness and efficiency of their spelling packets as well as on their tests.  Grades will be updated weekly.  Please check SIS frequently to access their progress.  I will also send out a mid-term progress report.
