Some Notes about your Algebra classes:
Ownership (50 % 0f grade)
Assignments: Students will need to work on math in math class. Class work will be rich, but homework will be light. A Strong emphasis is on the guided discoveries of mathematical concepts while in the classroom. This requires every student to participate in all class activities and assignments.
Homework: From time to time a student may not finish a class assignment or may need to revise a class assignment. When this happens, the student will complete their task for homework. “I’ll do it at home” is NOT an acceptable excuse for not working in class.
Note Booklets: Students will create their own “chapters” of notes for each unit of study in algebra. Note booklets will be collected and graded after the test on that specific chapter. This is an opportunity for students to get an “easy A” by simply keeping up with guided note taking activities. If a student misses a class, that student should seek out a peer for missed notes.
Revisions and late work: Both are accepted for nearly full credit until the class period before the test on those topics. After the test, partial credit may be awarded for very late work & revisions. Consider a test as the ‘big game.’ To win, students should practice before the big game.
Mastery (50 % 0f grade)
Tests: Tests will be used to determine levels of individual understanding. Material on the tests will consist only of material covered in class. Students may or may not be allowed to use their note booklets on a test (at the discretion of the teacher, announced before the test).
Test Redo (revisions): Students may have an opportunity to increase a test score by one grade level, but only after adequate completion of all assignments given prior to the test. The assignments are the practice. Test revisions and late work must occur in a timely manner.
