Language Arts

Your child should be reading 5 nights a week for at LEAST 20 minutes.  Don't forget to write the minutes in the planner. 

Spelling lists go out on Mondays, and are tested on Fridays.  You child needs to practice his/her sorts at home nightly.  I will be re-testing the kids this week and moving them as neccessary.

This week we are starting the novel Mr. Popper's Penguins.   Your child will be doing the reading in class, and responding in his/her journal.  The vocabulary words for this week are: expedition, explorers, erect, heathen, admiral, and untidy.  Please use these words in sentences at home.  The vocab test will be on Monday, November 3rd. 

In grammar we are working on writing paragraphs.  Students should be able to indent, use appropriate spacing, and varry sentence beginnings.  In writing they will be drafting a summary of Friendship According to Humphrey.

FLUENCY folders are due every week on Thursdays.  Your child should be practicing the passage as much as possible.

Science and Social Studies

We are learning about the earth and moon.  In language arts, we reading more books on the book, and practice note taking strategies.
