Hello and Welcome to 3rd Grade

I am Mrs. Moea'i and I am very excited for this new year! The first week went wonderfully and the students are off to a great start! We all have classroom jobs (so ask me what my job was this week). New jobs are assigned each week. We have 24 students in our class as of Friday. ECRI (our new Language Arts block) includes, reading, spelling, writing and vocabulary. This is an very exciting new way of learning and these first 3 weeks of school we are training our students how to work in class. It has been very different and hard at times, but with each day it gets easier and students are starting to respond to the new methodology. It is exciting to see the improvements in their handwriting and spelling all ready this week. Math is also a breakout class and students have different teachers for math and ECRI. So check with your student to find out their teachers names. I see our homeroom students for about 6 minutes in the morning and then they go off to Math and ECRI breakouts until lunch time. Then they are with me from lunch to the end of the day. In the afternoon we study our History, Science, Literature and Arts. We also have Library (Tuesdays), Computer Lab (Thursdays), Music on Tuesdays & Fridays, and PE (Mondays & Tuesdays). So our afternoons are the best time to volunteer in our classroom. Morning are good also, we just might not all be in my room at that time.

As for volunteers: We have some great room mothers:Tanya Porter, Pam Sintay, Liz Spalding and their helpers aer: Trudy Caton, Lahoma Hallingsworth and Brandy Glover. I will be contacting our room mothers to coordinate many things: such as; reading during chew time, volunteering in classroom, field trips, at home projects, PE, filing, cut-outs and special projects. So if you are interested in helping please feel free to contact me or the room mothers.

History-- Earliest Americans & Crossing the Land Bridge. We will be studying this subject for the next 3 weeks. We learned about Beringa and the Bering Strait. And who the earliest Americans were.

Geography --we learned what a globe is and labels that help us use the globe.

Literature-- we read a poem by Lewis Carrol called Father William, and began our elements in poetry.

Computer Lab -- our first trip to the lab we familiarized ourselves with the keyboard and typed our Names, birthday and favorite color. Many of us have not used a keyboard before. If you have time at home to sit with your child and familiarize them with the key board, it would be very helpful.

Library-- we will not have library until September 2nd. Until then the students are checking out books in our classroom library, but they are unable to bring this book home. Each child needs to read at least 30 minutes at home every night.

Book Orders: Scholastic Books orders went home this week, they are due by Friday August 29th.  Make checks payable to Scholastic Book.  Thanks for helping our classroom get books by ordering books from Scholastic.

Just an FYI: I am the American Fork High School Head Volleyball coach and during the months of August -October, I am at the school from 7:30 to 3:30 pm daily.  I have to leave the school by 3:30 pm to get to volleyball practice daily. There will be days that I have a substitute around 2:30 pm so that I can get to away games, but other than that I am available.  Email is the best way to contact me and I will get back to you within 24 hours.  If it is an emergency feel free to call my cell phone or send me a text.  I will try to get to you as soon as I can.

Thank you for allowing your student to attend Odyssey this year. We have a great year planned and it is going to be hands and feet above the rest!!
