Dear Parents,

Allow me to introduce myself; my name is Yolanda M. Rothfuss and I will be your child’s third grade teacher this school year.  I moved from California two years ago, I have also lived in several states; 4 years in Hawaii, 2 years in Arizona, 1 year in Texas and 6 months in Virginia. .

I graduated from California State University Los Angeles with a Bachelors Degree in Child Development, as well as completed the coursework required for a Professional Clear Multiple Subjects Credential, what that means is that I am qualified to teach students from K to 12th grade.  Most of my experience has been with third grade and kindergarten.  Third grade has always been my favorite grade, even when I a student.

Before deciding to become a teacher I served 6 years of active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, currently I am a reservist with the Navy.

By working together –teachers, students and parents- we can make this a productive school year.  In order to insure the best possible learning environment for all students, the following expectations and rules will be maintained throughout the year:

1.  Respect others, that means

·        Be on time

·        Do not hit, kick, touch, tease or bully (in other words don’t do anything that you would not want done to you)

·        Do not talk while others are talking; raise your hand

·        Work quietly.  Do not disturb others while they are working

2.  Always walk in the classroom and halls.

3.  Follow school rules

Our class will use a “color code” system.  If students follow the established rules, his/her card will stay on green (great behavior).  If student does not follow the rules, the following will happen:

1.      1st Warning – card moves from green to yellow.

2.      2nd Warning- card moves from yellow to red, and no recess

3.      3rd Warning- card moves from red to black, student takes a note home requesting a conference with the parent.

Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday, it will take approximately 30 min:

·        15 minutes reading

·        10 minutes (approximately) worksheet that reinforces learned that day

·        5 minutes review spelling words.

Homework is not intended to be stressful or time-consuming, if this becomes an issue with your child please let me know and we will work something out.

I am available before class and after class until 4pm.  I you need to meet with me at a different time please call me to make arrangements.

I will be more than happy to have volunteers, please contact me to schedule.
